Description:
This Gothic Revival structure was home to the city's Civil War mayor, Charles Henry Manship, who was also an expert craftsman known for his faux wood graining and marbling. Examples of his work are found throughout the home that also includes antiques and period furnishings. It was one of the few residences spared destruction when Jackson was burned during the Civil War.

Agriculture and forestry are the two most important industries in Mississippi. This museum complex encompasses almost 40 acres of fascinating displays devoted to farming and lumbering. The Fortenberry-Parkman Farm Restoration and the small crossroads town are living history exhibits of rural Mississippi life in the 1920's. Snacks and souvenirs are sold in the General Store.

This museum is the state's oldest and largest professional arts organization. The extensive collection includes works that focus on Mississippi's diverse heritage, along with a strong representation of 19th and 20th century American landscape painting. Rotating and traveling exhibitions, lectures, and special programs are scheduled throughout the year.

The story of Mississippi's natural history is told with exciting, educational exhibits at this museum. The main exhibition hall features aquariums with more than 200 species of native fish, reptiles, amphibians, and aquatic invertebrates. Special displays document the ecological history of the state's rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, and marshes, along with the Mississippi sound. Indoor and outdoor exhibits are separated by an octagonal skylight.

This unique, large-scale museum pays tribute to more than 200 past and current Mississippi athletes, including Brett Favre, Jerry Rice, Archie Manning, and Dizzy Dean. Participatory exhibits allow visitors to play championship golf courses, soccer or a game of horseshoes.
